Weekly Traditional Capoeira Roda
Welcome to the only weekly capoeira roda in the Pacific Northwest hosted by the Washington Capoeira Center. Watch and learn something new about a cultural art from Brazil. This program is free to the public and supported and funded by King County Parks Youth & Amateur Sports Grant*, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Parks & Rec, ArtsWA, City of Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, 4Culture, Tacoma Creates, Shunpike and Capoeira Life, and Empowering People in Communities (EPIC) and Capoeira Vida. Contact us for other free events provided by our NPO partners.
We have free capoeira rodas and programs every week, in addition to kids pizza parties and potlucks each month. See our calendar to sign up. Look for Saturdays and Sundays in Seattle and Thursdays in Tacoma. If you would like to contribute to potlucks, please no pork or nuts. Thank you!
*King County Youth and Amateur Sports Grants supports fit and healthy communities by investing in programs and capital facility projects that increase access to sports, play, and outdoor recreation. By investing in organizations and agencies serving low-income youth and youth of color, King County Parks is working to increase youth access to and participation in physical activity.
The capoeira roda (pronounced HO-da) is a circle formed by capoeira players and musical instruments, where every participant contributes to the energy and vibrations through singing and clapping along with the music. Two capoeira players enter the roda and play the game according to the style of the musical rhythm.
See our Calendar for details. If you have not yet, please sign our Online Waiver before participating.
In addition to our regular capoeira rodas, we have capoeira events throughout the year showcasing capoeira masters from Brazil, demonstrating at local festivals, and more. Stay connected in our email list for event announcements.
