Professor Mangangá (Syed Taqi) began playing Capoeira in Seattle with Capoeira Angola Palmares and Mestre Nô at the age of 14. He was first introduced to Capoeira by his sister Farah Nousheen (Meia-lua), and credits her with revealing to him the unparalleled reward in engaging in this art and culture. He fell in love with Capoeira the first time he witnessed it in person- the swing of the movements, the joy of the people, and the excitement of the game. His initial encounter with Mestre Nô sparked a deep desire and commitment to learn everything possible about the art in order to better his life, and the lives of those around him.
Professor Mangangá began teaching Capoeira Angola in 2004. Since that time, he has been entirely dedicated to the privilege of passing his knowledge, passion, and the culture of Capoeira Angola Palmares on, to students, communities in the Seattle area, and the world at large. Mangangá draws inspiration from many talented Capoeiristas in Brazil and around the world. He has lived with Mestre Nô for extended periods of time, expanding his skills and knowledge. Professor Mangangá continues to train and travel worldwide with Mestre Nô, playing Capoeira Angola.
Known internationally for his Zen-like style and intelligent approach to playing and teaching, Professor Mangangá has taught in Brazil, Europe, India and the United States. When he is not teaching he spends his time journeying to the homes of revered Capoeira Mestres and Professors around the world, seeking knowledge and continually learning about the most effective ways to play and spread the art and culture of Capoeira.
In 2010 at the International Capoeira Angola Palmares graduation in Canoas, RS Brazil, Mestre Nô awarded Mangangá with official certification, granting him the title Professor of Capoeira Angola. Mangangá is the only disciple of Mestre Nô to ever recieve an official degree of Professorship. This great honor was received in the presence of Mestres Calunga, Dindo, Polegar, and Pinoquio, as well as Capoeiristas in attendance from India, Japan, Mozambique, and the United States.
