Contramestre Mangangá – (Syed Taqi)
Syed (Contramestre Mangangá) is a world-renowned teacher and practitioner of Capoeira Angola of the new generation, with nearly 20 years of experience in the world of Capoeira. He is known for his calming zen-like approach to teaching and playing Capoeira.
Syed has been teaching in the Seattle area since 2005. He has taught workshops all over the United States as well as internationally. He has extensively lived and traveled throughout 11 states in Brazil playing and teaching Capoeira. He is the founder of the Seattle Capoeira Center, a branch of Capoeira Angola Palmares that is directly connected to the Grande Mestre of Capoeira Angola, Mestre Nô, who is considered the Master of Masters in the Capoeira community. Syed is one of only three North Americans having been promoted to Contramestre (Assistant Master) from Grande Mestre Nô. In 2015, Syed founded the non-profit organization, Capoeira Life.
Inst. Galo Preto – (Omari Jarmon)
Omari has nearly 15 years of experience in Capoeira Angola. He has received training from some of the top Masters in the art. He’s an encyclopedia of Capoeira history and is eager to guide new students to their goals. He began teaching Capoeira in Tacoma in 2012. You can find him volunteering at the SCC assisting in classes on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Inst. Barril de Macacos – (Dan Boxer)
Dan has over 20 years of experience in Capoeira Angola. He has trained with Mestre Nô and received training from various other Masters in Brasil. Dan had the prestigious honour of receiving his Instructor Certification directly from Grande Mestre Nô. His approach to teaching classes are very technical and thoughtful. You can find him volunteering at the SCC in every class.
